Roman cast copper alloy headstud brooch, AD75-175. The spring and pin are missing; the spring would have been held within the semi-circular sectioned wings. The front of the wings is flat and there is a circular depression towards the end of each wing (diameter c.3mm). A loop appears to have been broken off the top of the head. There is a circular depression with raised rim around (the headstud) towards the top of the bow. The decoration on the bow is unclear, but appears to have been longitudinal rows of lozenges/triangles. Forward facing circular foot-knob with depression. The short catchplate (length 13mm) is damaged. The bow has been distorted - bent almost flat. Length 41.53mm, width of wings 25.9mm, width at top of head 9.6mm, max thickness (across bow at stud) 5.1mm, weight 9.44g.

Class: headstud
Evidence of reuse: flattened
