BROOCH

Unique ID: WMID3556

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

The wings are semi-cylindrical with capped terminals. The capped terminals have a hole in each which supports the iron axis bar. There is iron staining around the wing terminals and spring. Around the axis bar the spring is coiled, with a complete horizontal bar above the spring. From the centre of the spring the pin protrudes, only a fragment of the pin remains. The wings are decorated with expanded wing caps, so they are wider in diameter than the wings. The bow head is hump-like, with a small hook at the apex, which holds in place the horizontal bar of the spring. The bow is undecorated and gradually tapers to a inverted conical shaped foot. The bow is sub semi-circular in section, and the foot is circular in section. The catchplate is solid and complete and starts its form just below the wings on the reverse of the bow. The brooch has a blue/green patina.
