A copper alloy dress fastener; half of a hook and eye fastener dating from c. 1600-1700. It is oval in shape; one end of the oval finishes in a pierced lobe with a small knop, the other end in a rectangular fastening loop. There are two side lobes, each of which also carries a small knop and a sewing hole. The upper side is decorated with a pattern of a plant with three flowers, one at the end of the stem and one on either side. The underside is plain. The fastener has a light green patina and the metal is in good condition. It is 36.6mm long, 29mm wide, and 2.2mm thick. It weighs 3.88gm.
