A copper-alloy hooked mount of post-medieval date. The attachment plate is triangular or elongated heart shaped in plan with an indent in the centre of the shorter top edge and long sides that taper towards the hook. The front is slightly convex with two in situ corroded iron rivets, located centrally, one above the other. Extending from the base of the plate is a backward-facing hook of tapering, D-shaped section. The back of the attachment plate is concave and has adhering iron corrosion from the rivets. The mount measures 29.6mm long, 12.8mm wide and 1.9mm thick excluding the iron corrosion; it weighs 3.28 grams. Read (2001, p. 42) illustrates a range of similar, although with a range of differently shaped plates, hooked mounts. He suggests (p.30) that such mounts probably date from the 17th century AD and served to suspend swords from belts. For a parallel on the PAS database, see BH-571E67.
