CANNON BALL

This is a cast iron Post Medieval cannon ball, perhaps from the 17th or 18th century. The ball is consistent with the size of cannon known as a Falcon. Although various weights and size tables can be found for the Falcon, this ball at 2 pounds and around 2.5 inches in diameter is consistent with the type. The ball has a clear cast line around the circumference and a casting spru is evident at 90 degrees to the casting line. The Falcon was a modest cannon, around six foot in length with a level range of around 200 yards. An interesting find when associated with its find location near Montgomery
