Post medieval coin weight; cast copper alloy coin weight for a French half ecu au soleil, dating from the period 1475-1654. The weight was made in Antwerp by a maker whose work is recorded but whose name is not known. The weight is a small, square, biface weight Obv. Crowned shield of France, containing three fleurs de lis. The shield has an extra lis to the right and the whole is within a beaded outer circle. Die offset from centre of weight Rev. A right hand, raised, palm facing (the symbol of Antwerp). The hand has the letters 'M / D' to either side and 'LP' beneath. The whole is within a laureate border.
