Early Medieval gilded copper alloy florid cruciform brooch fragment, 56mm long, 43mm wide and 15mm thick (at bow). The object is in fair condition with a green patina and weighs 33.93grams. The brooch consists of curved bow which is decorated with raised lines. Below this is a rectangular plate which is decorated with a border of raised rectangles above a stylised human face. At each side are fragmentary wings which have an abstract design. The whole surface is heavily gilded and the reverse contains a catchplate.

The brooch is very similar to one from Empingham, Rutland (grave 49A listed as Mortimer type Z1b- Leeds and Pocock type V(c)).
