Early medieval (11th century) cast copper alloy horse harness fitting, strap distributer. One half is missing. There is a square convex central boss with two rounded triangular side knops, and one arm extending from the central boss with a worn break on the opposing side. The arm has a lozengiform terminal with a large openwork oval. There is a rounded knop at each angle of the terminal. This would have been a double terminal bar but the other arm and terminal are missing. Length 47.48mm, width 22.84mm and weight 15.74g. The colour is dark brown with remains of a mid green patina and some light green corrosion. Read illustrates an almost identical artefact on page 50 no 474, which is dated as 11th to 12th century.
