A copper alloy spur buckle of Medieval date. It is complete with the exception of the separately cast pin, which is missing due to old breaks. The integrally cast plate is sub-rectangular in shape, rectangular in section and expands slightly towards the frame. It has a concave inner edge and corresponding convex outer edge, with a flat back and single integrally cast rivet towards the inner edge. A single circular perforation for the missing pin is visible at the outer edge of the plate/inner edge of the frame. The frame itself is trapezoidal in shape, rectangular in section and with a thickened outer edge. The outer edge has a small central rectangular pin groove and there are traces of gilding on all surfaces. The entire object measures 25.36mm in length, 12.47mm in height, 3.16mm in thickness, and weighs 2.80g. This is a small spur buckle with integrally cast plate of Medieval date. Similar examples recorded on the PAS database (see for example SF-69D217) and from Medieval London (Egan and Pritchard, 1991: no. 485) suggest a date in the 13th-14th centuries AD for the current example.
