An incomplete copper-alloy frame from a single-loop buckle of Medieval date. Similar buckles found at Meols, Cheshire, have been dated to the late 13th/early 14th century (see Griffiths et al. 2007: 88, Type 2). The now-bent frame would originally have been D-shaped in plan. The surfaces are flat and the width of the sides expands gradually towards the outer side, which has a central pin rest defined by two transverse grooves. To either side of these grooves is a further, angled groove. The offset axis bar is largely missing. The upper surface of the corroded frame retains traces of gilding. The piece measures 20.9mm long, 33.9mm wide and 2.5mm thick. The weight is 3.99g.
