BROOCH

Unique ID: WMID2927

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

The centre of the brooch has a small dome, around which are probably debased zoomorphic features. The central dome is made or coloured with a red ?enamel. The surface of the dome is slightly ?pitted. The zoomorphic features are high-relief and are not symmetrical, consisting of pellets (possibly eyes), 'P'-shapes, and slightly curved rectangular shapes. These components of the design have fine incised grooves to add detail to the design. There are traces of gilding. These features are bordered by two concentric rings of pellets which vary in width slightly. The edge of the brooch is heavily abraded. The upper face of the brooch is slightly concave. The reverse of the brooch has two worn and incomplete rectangular lugs, one on opposite edges to each other. On lug has traces of iron remaining. The brooch has a mid-green patina covering the majority of its edges, including the abraded edges.
