Two body sherds from thin walled Severn Valley coarse-ware pottery vessels, probably from two separate vessels; not enough survives of either sherd to indicate the form or overall vessel size. The sherds date from the Roman period (50 - 410). Both sherds are irregular in plan and sub-rectangular in profile. The fabric is a relatively soft fired earthenware with a number of small angular and sub-angular black grit (possibly coal measure rock / coal) inclusions. The fabric is also mica rich. The colour of the fabric is a uniform mid orange brown colour. The fineness of the sherds would suggest that the vessel was of high quality, possibly a tankard or other vessel used at the table rather than kitchen. The sherds measure 1. 21.9mm in length, 21.1mm width, is 3.4mm thick and weighs 1.88 grams. 2. 26.2mm in length, 16.4mm width, is 4.4mm thick and weighs 2.13 grams.
