Cast copper alloy trumpet brooch dating to c.75- 175 AD. It is mostly complete although the pin and catchplate have broken. The head has been bent to form a sharper angle than the usual curve of the bow. It is a hinged type with the axis bar being encased in an integral cylinder on the reverse of the head. There would have been a headloop formed from a continuation of the bar but it has broken before the loop, leaving just the horizontal strip on one side. The loop would have been held in place by a hook, the base of which can be seen at the top of the head. The head is the usual trumpet shape although it has slightly squared off ends. The bow then narrows until it reaches the cenral acanthus moulding. This is only on the front of the bow and consists of a central raised band with petal shapes above and below. Above and below these are collars consisting of tow raised bands. Below the moulding the bow is bent to the right. It has a triangular cross section with a raised central ridge. The bow narrows towards the foot which has a collar before a rounded protrusion. The catchplate is mostly complete and starts half way up the bow, at the point of the acanthus moulding.
