Medieval buckle; cast copper alloy buckle of late 14th century date. The buckle is a double, oval looped buckle with expanded, decorative edges to both loops. The expanded edges are straight and sub-rectangular (with concave shorter sides). They are decorated with incised lines. There are single lines running along both sides of the expanded panel, forming borders. Between these border lines, there are three, diagonal, double lines and there are also little ‘flecks’ between the diagonal lines. The pin is still present and is a simple, tapering strip of copper alloy, rolled around the central pin bar of the buckle. There are traces of tinning or silvering in small patches on both the front and back faces of the buckle Length 40.3mm, width 34.5mm, thickness 2.9mm, weight 12.10g Ref: Whitehead ‘Buckles; 1250-1800’ (pp. 58, nos. 340 & 341)
