~~ Silver, denarius of Carausius (AD286-293), reverse type: EXPECTA(T)[E?] (VENI?), two figures, probably Britannia and the emperor, standing holding hands; Britannia also holds a wreath or patera. No mint mark, Unattributed Mint. This coin shares the same dies with Shiel, The Episode of Carausius and Allectus, p. 119, no. 9 which is the same coin that was sold by CNG, Triton XIV, 4.1.2011, Lot 817. There is a coin with the same reverse type, but a different reverse legend (V/M/NETOPA AVG - apparently non-sensical) in the British Museum (R 3512). This coin is included in Sam Moorhead's corpus for RIC.
