Date: 13th - early 14th century Description: A medieval gold annular brooch, set with six coloured stones in raised collets on a frame of D-shaped section. The stones are arranged symmetrically: on either side of the pin are set three stones, one blue stone between two red stones. The blue stones are probably sapphires, the red stones probably garnets or rubies. Between each stone, the frame of the brooch is decorated with granulation. The pin survives, with a raised collar of granulation, and is looped around a constriction which lies between two raised ridges. The end of the pin sits in a pin rest, formed from a raised recess. Dimensions: Maximum diameter: 20mm. Length of pin: 20mm. Beverley Nenk Dept Prehistory and Europe British Museum 20 July 2009
