Object type certainty: Certain

Cast copper alloy Medieval (or possibly Post-Medieval) button with integral shank. Roughly triangular in shape, with a small groove in the middle of the upper side, possibly to create a heart shape. The shank is sub-circular and rectangular in section. A similar example may be seen in Read (2005, p.15, no.40), which he dates to the 15th century. However, Read also points out that buttons with this style of shank continued into, and perhaps beyond, the 17th century. Therefore it is possible that this button is of a later, Post-Medieval date. Length: 19.96mm, Width: 18.20mm, Thickness: 14.20mm Weight: 7.10g
