Rim sherd from a coarse sand tempered Medieval cooking pot, c.1225-1300 AD. The fabric is pale orange with a mid grey-brown core. The rim is projects outwards at a right angle with a flat top, slightly rounded outer edge and concave lower side; it is too small to reconstruct the original diameter. It weighs 4.4 grams.

Notes:

Part of a large collection of material from one garden. The majority are ceramics including brick, tile and vessel fragments. Previous finds from the same area included Roman, Saxon and Medieval ceramics. The earliest pottery in this collection is one fragment of Late Iron Age-Roman material, the remainder are Medieval, Post Medieval and Modern. There is also some worked flint, Post Medieval glass, Post Medieval clay pipes, undatable iron nails and a mix of modern materials.
