An incomplete early medieval (Anglo-Saxon) silver penny of Wulfred, Archbishop of Canterbury (AD 805-832), Group IV anonymous coinage dating to c AD 822-3 (North 238; Naismith C59), moneyer: Swefherd, mint: Canterbury. Refs: North 1994: 78; Naismith 2011: plate 32-3 (see C59c, this coin).

The coin is slightly bent but has little surface wear. It measures 20.4mm in diameter, 0.5mm thick and weighs 1.2g.

Notes:

This coin is one of only two examples of Wulfred's 'anonymous' group to be recorded by the PAS to date (see also HAMP-D93DA7).
