Cast copper alloy belt mount with integral attachment spikes. The mount is foliate in outline (three lobes at one end and two at the other), with incised foliate decoration on the surface. It has two integral attachment spikes, both project out at right angles to the back of the plate and are then are bent inwards. They have rectangular cross sections. The construction of this object is similar to that of mounts dated to the 17th Century by Brian Read (see Read, B, (2001) Metal Artefacts of Antiquity but it is similar in shape and decoration to some triple-looped bar mounts identified as 16th century sword belt fittings (ibid. p 39 &43, Fig. 26, No. 373 and see database reference HAMP-D5AA40). It is likely that this is of similar date and also used to decorate a sword belt. Dimensions: 27.14 mm x 18.70 mm x 11.98 mm Weight: 5.50 g Date: Post medieval- 16th to 17th century
