An incomplete cast copper-alloy front plate from a padlock of post-medieval date. It is circular in form with two protruding lugs at the top. The bar or mechanism was made of iron given the orange corrosion product found on one side of the plate. Arranged longitudinally down the centre of both faces is an incised rectangular section. This is divided into three squares with incised double linear borders and incised crosses. This is the front plate as the central panel of the three is replaced by a keyhole, made from two conjoined punched circles. This padlock is similar to a number on the database (for example SWYOR-119041, LVPL358, NLM2784, HAMP-A46202), but instead of ring and dot decoration, the edge of the plate has scalloped borders of opposed rouletted triangles. These padlocks are of a post-medieval date (circa 1650-1850 AD). The plate is covered with a green patina, with some patches of lighter corrosion product, and has suffered from some losses to the edge.
