A group of 70 roman vessel sherds from a limited area within a field known to have produced Iron Age and Roman material. Various pieces show signs of burning, some of which is quite intense. All of the diagnostic examples are 1st century AD in date, with nothing to suggest anything later than the mid-2nd century. 1) One rim and one body sherd of Roman or Late Iron Age grey wares (GX/BSW) with burnished exteriors. They are wheelthrown or well-finished handmade wares, one a neckless jar and the other a cordonned sherd from a form 5.1 type jar. These are Late Iron Age in date. 2) 6 rim sherds, 11 body sherds and one base from large grey ware (GG & GX) storage vessels often with vertical combing and of 1st century AD date. 3) 6 rim sherds and 3 base shers from Roman grey ware (GX) jars. 4) One lid from a Roman grey ware (GX) vessel. 5) 32 body sherds from Roman grey ware vessels with occasional decoration consisting of horizontal cordons and combing. 6) 8 body sherds from Roman grey micaceous ware (GM) vessels including three cordonned pieces probably of form 5.1 type jars.
