Early Medieval (11th century) Williams Class B, Type 1, Group 3 (see page 86; fig. 54; ref. 395ff.) The mount is roughly shield-shaped (pentagonal) in plan, with an angled flan at its base. There are two corroded iron rivets, and part of a corroded iron bar adhering to the flange. The main body of the mount is symmetrical openwork, with an animal head at the centre of each of the longer lengths, and a further animal head at the base. The worn heads are rectangular, with curved triangular ears. The openwork is in the form if circles, with one at the apex, with four arranged in a square below, one directly above the third animal head, and one to either side of this animal head; creating a total of 8 large circles. There are smaller openwork circles, one above and below both of the outer animal heads. The mount is red-brown in colour, with patches of mid-green. It is 37.17mm long, 31.02mm wide, has a maximum thickness of 5.29mm thick and weighs 20.27 grams.
