Cast copper alloy strap end length 46mm, width 13mm, thickness 4mm weight 7.78g. Rectangular shape with slightly convex edges. Decoration consist of a roundel in the centre with a possible animal depicted in the middle, a rectangular panel to the front contains a quatrefoil and a rectangular panel to the rear contains another possible curled animal, each of the three panels is surrounded by a beaded border. The forward edge of the strap end has a moulded animal facemask which has a line for the eyes or eyebrow ridge with two crescents behind for the ears. Trefoil decoration at the rear. The attachment end is slotted and has two rivet holes for the strap. Mid green patina with almost its entire original surface remaining. All of the decoration is in the trewhiddle style. This is a Thomas class A which dates it to the late 8th early 10th century, 2005, Late Anglo-Saxon & Viking Strap-ends 750-1100 Finds Research Group AD700-1700 Datasheet 32.
