THUMB NAIL SCRAPER

Unique ID: SOM-FB6643

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Thumb nail scraper, made from a secondary flake, of probable Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date. The butt appears to have snapped off following deposition leaving a sharp break. However, very discreet ripples suggest that a soft hammer was probably used. The dorsal face has brown, matt, pebble cortex remaining on the right-hand side. In the centre and to the left of the dorsal face are two long, thin flaking scars. Above this, at the distal end, is semi-abrupt, long, scaled retouch. This retouch continues along both the right and left edges, becoming shorter and abrupt. The flint is dark grey-brown in colour, with small white flecks and a glossy patina. The edges are slightly plough damaged. Length: 20.00mm, Width: 22.98mm, Thickness: 6.56mm Weight: 3.08g
