A medieval - post medieval copper alloy (brass) ring-type thimble (AD1450- 1620). The circular holes have been drilled in a pattern of horizontal rings. The walls are straight and the diameter tapers slightly towards the upper edge. There is a seam running vertically. Along the seam there are partial holes and some of the holes adjacent to the seam have been drilled completely through the thickness of the thimble. There is no evidence of a maker's mark.
Dimensions: Diameter at base: 16.82mm; Diameter at peak: 12.94mm; weight: 2.65g.

Notes:
Notes: "Ring-type thimbles leave the end of the finger free and are designed for the needle to be pushed with the side of the finger. In general, terms, ring type thimbles are used for heavier work. Tailors traditionally use a ring type thimble" Holmes (1985-1998:datasheet 9)
