A rim fragment from a late Medieval or Post Medieval cast copper alloy vessel. The rim is slightly thickened with D-shaped swellings on the inner and outer side, the one on the inner side is wider, and would have flared out from the body of the vessel. The internal surface is smooth but the external surface is slightly rough from wiping lines on the mould and has extensive soot deposits.

Crudely made cast copper alloy vessels were widely used from c. AD 1200-1700 for serving and cooking (Butler and Green 2003; 7,15, 22).

Notes:

A pot leg from a cast copper alloy vessel was found within 2 meters of this item, due to rows of cut wheat and high stubble it was not practical to search further in the immediate area. Refer to BUC-53E2A2 for the vessel leg record.
