A Roman cast copper alloy plumb bob, probably of 1st to 3rd century AD date. The plumb bob is conical in shape, with eight lobed, linear ribs arranged around the body, coming to a point at the base. The cone is 15.9mm long and 14.2mm in diameter at the thickest point. At the top of the cone the body narrows to cylindrical protrusion, 9.1mm in diameter, with a horizontal grove running around the circumference. The plumb bob terminates with a circular attachment loop, which may have been attached after the original casting, possibly as a repair. There is a similar example of a Roman Plumb bob in the Catalogue of small finds from South Shields Roman Fort, ref 476, although this example is not as complete. The plumb bob is 26.4mm long, 14.2mm wide, 9.1mm thick and weighs 11.1g.
