A copper alloy globular knop from the wing of a developed 'onion-knobbed' Roman crossbow brooch. It is circular in plan, onion shaped in profile with a small projecting knop at the top and two moulded circumferential ridges at the base. The underside of the knop is flattened and has a central circular perforation for attachment probably to the wing of the brooch. The object measures 19.76mm in height, 13.32mm in diameter, and weighs 11.22g. This is a globular knop from a late Roman crossbow brooch. Similar brooches with onion shaped knops are noted from Roman Richborough (see Bayley and Butcher, 2004: p. 185, no. 325) and suggest a possible date of c.340-460 AD for the current example.
