Edward Besley comments: "The reverse, to judge from other denominations of his, is a version of Dominus mihi a[d]iutor non timebo quid faciat mihi homo - 'The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what men shall do unto me' (St Paul's letter to the Hebrews, Ch.13, v.6 - here in the King James version). [The coin version reads 'If God is my helper...'] My reference for Portuguese coins is: C. M. Almeida do Amaral, Catalogo descritivo das moedas Portuguesas, Museo numismático Português, Lisbon 1977. This coin similar to nos 329-31."
