A 10th-century silver early-medieval penny of Eadgar (959-75 AD), circumscription cross type, struck at Winchester by Martin (pre-reform phase, 959 - c. 973 AD; North 749 var.)
Notes:
Gareth Williams notes: 'Martin is also recorded (various spellings) as a moneyer under Edgar at Chester in Two-line HR2 and in the Two-line HT1 without mint signature, although to the best of my knowledge he is not otherwise recorded in Circumscription Cross or at Winchester. This is unlikely to be the same moneyer as at Chester, but may be the same as the moneyer in HT1.' This coin was recorded at the British Musuem and lacks dimensions and a precise findspot.
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
