BROOCH

Unique ID: WMID1630

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

The wings are semi-circular with wing caps. The wing caps support the axis bar. The wing caps are slightly expanded. The axis bar appears to be iron. The spring is complete, however the pin is missing. The bow head is hump-like with a small hook at the tip. The decoration on the bow head and bow consists of a single vertical narrow groove in the centre of the bow. The groove appears to be filled with a dark matt substance, possibly niello. Either side of the ridge there is a crescent stamped either side of the groove. The foot is moulded and ribbed horizontally. The catchplate is solid. There are traces of tinning.
