Medieval buckle; cast copper alloy buckle of probable medieval date. The buckle is of the single-looped, D-shaped type and has a sturdy, folded buckle plate. However, it is somewhat unusual as the buckle frame is formed of a strip of copper alloy set vertically and with a little, semi-circular notch cut out to receive the pin. The frame has also been fixed to the buckle plate, such that it is rigid and will not move relative to the plate. The pin, which is a simple, tapering strip of copper alloy rolled around the pin bar, is present and complete. The buckle plate is fixed to the leather strap by means of a single, circular, copper alloy rivet in the centre near the end. The rivet is also still present. There are extensive remains of silvering or tinning on both faces of the buckle plate and on the buckle frame. Remnants of the leather strap are also still present, within the buckle plate. Length 29.3mm, width 15.2mm, thickness 5.3mm, weight 5.15g
