A copper alloy Roman dolphin brooch. This brooch has a hinge mechanism. Its wings (left one damaged) are decorated with transverse grooves at the ends. The head also has grooves on it, which run over the head and all the way down the bow to the grooves of the foot. There are three pairs of grooves (sides and middle) with transverse lines running the length between each pair. The brooch has a green patina and measures 59.1mm x 35.1mm x 18.6mm, weighing 29.81g. A similar example can be found in 'A visual catalogue of Richard Hattatt's Ancient Brooches', p.299, no.360. This type dates to the 1st century AD.
