A copper-alloy Roman As, a contemporary copy of a coin of Faustina I (c.138-161 AD). Reverse: A female figure standing with sceptre or torch, in the field C (reversed) S.

This is an unusual coin in Britain, but a significant number of 2nd century copies were found in the Bath spring deposits (Walker 1988, p. 323, c.f. 17-20) If the reverse legend starts with MAT, then it is referring to the Magna Mater who is honoured on sestertii of Faustina I (RIC III, p. 165, c.f. 1145)
