A copper alloy late Roman or early Medieval Penannular brooch. This has a thick penannular ring with fine circumferential grooves on the front of the circular frame in sections. The pin is still present and is one piece of metal with one end flattened to wrap around the frame. The terminals are broad and cuboid with champfered corners. They are decorated with five dots on the front face of each terminal. Fowler describes this as a type G brooch. This type dates to the 4th-7th century AD (PAS Northern Regional Report, Treasure Hunting Sept 2008, p.23). It measures 29.4mm x 24.2mm x 4.6mm, weighing 8.31g.
