Medieval strap end; cast copper alloy strap end of probable 13th or 14th century date. The strap end is of the ‘two-piece sheet-metal with side strips’ type, being formed of two long, narrow strips of copper alloy with further, thin strips between to form a box-like construction. The strap end has slightly tapering sides and is then shaped to shallow point at the terminal. The open end has two little knicks to form a tri-lobed shape. There are two rivets in the centre of the strap end, one near the open end and one about 10mm from the terminal. There are remains of some organic material, probably leather, within the strap end. Length 49.1mm, width 7.2mm, thickness 3.4mm, weight 5.82g Ref: Egan, et al ‘Dress Accessories: Medieval finds from excavations in London’ (pp. 136-137, nos. 630-633)
