A complete copper alloy heart-shaped brooch of Medieval date (AD 1200 – AD 1400). Length: 28.9mm; width: 25.6mm and 4.9mm thick. Weight: 4.27g. The heart-shaped frame is flat and rectangular in cross-section and the width, throughout its length, is about 3.9mm. One side of the frame has a circular perforation, 1.7mm in diameter, to accommodate the pin. The copper alloy wire pin is circular in cross-section and has a maximum diameter of 1.6mm. It tapers from the fully enclosing loop towards the sharp tip which is misshapen and turned back towards the loop. There is a small ‘V’-shaped notch on the frame where the tip of the pin rested. This brooch is corroded and has a patchy cover of superficial copper alloy corrosion products. A patina has not survived and there is no trace of an inscription or any surface treatment.
