Nine Roman pottery sherds from a bowl, of a Gaulish ware (AD43-410). This large rim sherd is from a bowl with a squared rim and rounded shoulder. The shoulder is decorated with bands of horizontal grooves and the surface is burnished right up to and including the rim. Beneath the shoulder is unburnished. The internal surface is also decorated with a burnished pattern. The upper section has a solid band of burnishing and there is a central radiating linear pattern. This is a sand-tempered fabric has a pale grey core with dark grey surfaces. There are quite large quartz and large chunks of dark mica inclusions.
Beth Richardson and Amy Thorp note this is an unusual form and decoration, they believe it is Gaulish and possibly from Brittany.
