A hollow cast copper-alloy pommel plausibly from a later medieval sword. The pommel is sub-cordate in plan, with six sides. The attachment end is flat in plan (16.3 by 14.95mm), sub-circular in cross-section with a sub-circular perforation (Dia.: c. 11.5mm) to accommodate the tang. The other end echoes it in being broadly flat, although it does incurve slightly (L.: c. 22.3mm). It features a smaller, circular perforation (Dia.: 5.85mm). The sides curve outwards from the attachment end as moulded fronds which terminate in double cusps. From the other end the sides curve out slightly to meet them. The fronds are delineated by grooves; there is a further longitudinal groove down the centre of both main faces. Above the attachment end is a double incised border. The grooves are scored fairly neatly although some cut across each other. Within the main grooves are traces of rouletted triangles. There are longitudinal lines between the cusps of the fronds, as well as small lines above. Further, the whole outer surface of the pommel is decorated with lightly incised longitudinal dashes. The artefact has suffered some scratching and other damage but generally survives well, with a mid-dark green patina.
