1494-1501. Henry VII hammered silver 'Sovereign' penny. Length 15.7mm, Width 13.2mm, Thickness 0.6mm, Diameter 15.7mm, Weight 0.6g. Obverse: King holding orb and sceptre without a crozier on the throne with one pillar. Illegible. Reverse: Mitre above royal shield over long cross which divides the legend and DR at sides, Illegible. Issued by Archbishop Fox of Durham. Die axis 240 degrees or 10 o'clock. Worn, clipped with the odd chip out of the edge and heavily tarnished condition. Ref: Coins of England and the UK, Spink 2003, page 208, No. 2233 and English Hammered Coinage vol 2, J.J.
