A complete cast copper alloy button of Late Medieval to Early Post-Medieval date (c. AD 1450 – c. AD 1600). Length: 15.0mm; diameter: 13.2mm. Weight: 3.29g. The button is discoidal and solid with a convex front and flat back. At the front it is decorated with a large central boss surrounded by radiating multi-petals. The slightly off-centre shank has a length of 6.5mm with a maximum width of 6.1mm and a thickness of 2.1mm. There is circular off-centre perforation with a diameter of 3.1mm. There are traces of a mid-green patina overall. A close parallel for this button is recorded in Read (2005, 32, ref. 105). Read suggests that these type of buttons are sixteenth century although they may be as early as the late fifteenth century.
