A cast copper alloy rectangular chafing dish handle. Chafing dishes were domestic utensils made of metal or earthenware for holding burning charcoal or other combustible material. This was then used to cook food or keep it hot at the table (Lewis, 1973). This type of dish dates from circa 1450 - 1550. The vessels themselves were cast in one piece and finished on a lathe. Each vessel would have had two handles. The handle has a striated surface, caused by filing. The handle is rectangular with a square extension at the top, where it would have joined the staple. The edges are chamfered.
