A medieval French jetton, probably one of the stock jettons minted at Tournai during the reign of Charles VII (1422-1461). The jetton has a diameter of 26.9mm and is 1.1mm thick. It weighs 3.86g. It has been double struck and has a jumbled legend. For reference see Mitchiner's "Jetons, Medalets and Tokens", Vol. I Nos. 527-531.

Obverse description: Three fleurs-de-lis within a shield, all within an inner, plain circle. The points of the shield touch the inner circle. There are three pellets within the shield, one between the upper two fleurs and one on either side of the lower fleur. The lower left-hand pellet has been obscured by double striking. There are also three pellets within the circle, one above the shield and one to either side. The inner circle is surrounded by a legend in Lombardic script, which is in turn surrounded by an incomplete beaded outer circle. The legend appears to be jumbled.
Obverse inscription: X AVE M[ARI]A PEN[.]IA
Reverse description: A double stranded arctuate cross fleuretty with a letter V at the centre, within a beaded inner circle. Within each angle of the cross is a small fleur-de-lis dependant from the inner circle. The inner circle is surrounded by a legend in Lombardic script, which is in turn surrounded by an incomplete beaded outer circle. The legend appears to be jumbled.
