The base of a wheel-made New Forest Slipped Ware vessel of late Roman date (c. 260-370 AD). The sherd measures 58.5mm by 40.3mm by 6.4mm and weighs 30.3g. The diameter of the base is 32.3mm. The fine fabric is a reduced light grey and the vessel has a dark grey slip both internally and externally (New Forest fabric 1a). The sherd is probably from a beaker rather than a bowl as the base is nearly flat and does not have a foot ring.
