STRAP END

Unique ID: BH-7D7112

Object type certainty: Certain

A copper-alloy plate from a strap-end of late 13th to early 15th century date. For a parallel for this artefact, see Egan and Pritchard, 1991, p. 135, no. 619. Apart from the rivets, this strap end is probably complete. The rectangular frame has had its vertical sides bent downwards, which would have helped to hold it to the leather strap. The upper surface has an incised foliate pattern; this sits within a line border and the background is filled with diagonally incised lines. There are three rivet holes, arranged in an inverted triangle formation. The object has a light green patina. It measures 14mm long, 19mm wide and 1mm thick. The weight is 1.49g.
