Late Saxon/Medieval copper alloy stirrup-strap mount, cast with lower part of broken trilobed apex pierced by a rivet-hole, sub-triangular body decorated with an openwork lion facing sinister (to the lions left) and looking upwards with open mouth, front paw raised (represented by three transverse ribs on outside edge of frame) and tail curled between the hind legs and over the back, remains of two corroded iron rivets through the base above a slight right-angled flange, corroded remains of iron plate on reverse. 26 x >38mm. cf. Williams (1997) Class A, Type 11, decoration closest to three examples shown in fig.43, nos.269-71.
