A cast copper alloy buckle with adjacent sheet plate of medieval date. The oval single loop buckle measures 21.1mm by 25.3mm by 2.7mm, the distorted and incomplete rectangular folded sheet plate measures 34.3mm by 15mm by 4mm, and the whole weighs 6.5g. The outside edge of the frame protrudes slightly at each end and there is a central notch for the pin, which is wrapped around the bar and tapers to a blunt point. The outside edge is decorated with two further pairs of incised transverse lines. The bar is offset. The plate is recessed for the frame and three separately cast rivets held the plate in place. The buckle is broadly similar to nos. 313-19 in Egan and Pritchard's 'Dress Accessories' (1991, pp. 76-78). The type was in use from the late 12th to the late 14th centuries.
