WEIGHT

Unique ID: SUSS-C45462

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Cone shaped cast lead alloy weight. The weight has a flat circular base, 18.4mm in diameter, the top is a rough cone shape 14.0mm tall. There is a circular hole, 4.8mm in diameter, running through from the base, where it is very off centre to the tip of the cone which is therefore flat. Such simple weights could be made locally for a range of uses and are difficult to date more precisely than Roman, Medieval or Post medieval. The central piercing would allow it to be put on a string for safe storage or use. It weighs 21.66 grams, 0.76 ounces.
