Fragment of a medieval copper alloy mace head, circular (diameter 30mm, excluding projection), heavily cast with one surviving projecting blunt rectangular pyramid at surviving edge, slightly irregular circular central perforation. Height >18mm. Cf. examples from Burgh with Tuttington (c.TG 2329 2623, includes SMR 33592) and Saham Toney (HER 34101). A broadly similar 'probably medieval' mace head (with two rows of pyramidal projections) from Lidgate, Suffolk is illustrated in Evans (1881 The Ancient Bronze Objects, Weapons and Ornaments of Great Britain and Ireland fig.339) and parallels are known from Central Europe and the Balkans, in particular, a number of 13th-15th century examples from Hungary illustrated in Nicolle (1999 Arms and Armour of the Crusading Era 1050-1350, Western Europe and the Crusader States, 317 and 520, nos.861a-c), see also Daubney in Geake (2005), 334 and 336-7, fig.5.
